BACKGROUND
‘Embarrassment’ dealt with an altogether more serious issue. Lee Thompson’s 17-year-old sister Tracy had become pregnant with a mixed-race child, which caused consternation among some of the family’s friends, relatives and neighbours, who disapproved – seemingly not of Tracy having a baby out of wedlock but of the fact she had slept with a man of colour.
