BACKGROUND

The tenacious Dave Robinson squeezed another single off the album—the first three tracks on side one were the first three Madness singles on Stiff—plus there was the re-recording of “The Prince,” also included on side one. There was a lot of argy-bargy about yet another single from One Step Beyond…; it was simply bad form to ‘rip off the fans’ by making them buy more A-sides from an album they already had, even if the B-side was exclusive to the release.

After much negotiation, a compromise was finally agreed upon. The outcome was a 7″ EP, showcasing “Night Boat to Cairo” as the leading track, along with three fresh and original songs from Madness. The EP was a fantastic addition to the band’s discography, showcasing their unique musical style and creativity.
